HOW THE CHURCH WORKS – Responsibilities of Church Membership

Wyomissing Church of the Brethren

Our Three Vows of Faith

1. I believe that Jesus is the revealer of God’s love and purpose for

this world.

2. I will live in keeping with the example of Jesus as my teacher and

guide.

3. I will be a faithful member of the church, continuing the work of

Jesus and sharing in the gifts of the Spirit with my prayers and

presence, my substance and service.

CONGREGATIONAL FORUM

Every member has a vote – this is ultimate decision-making body. Every

member in attendance is allowed to participate in discussion, propose

courses of action and vote on the items of business, including program

budget, elections and callings, reports.

LEADERSHIP TEAM

Members of the congregation are all eligible to serve in elected positions

as their gifts, talents and interests determine. Every member is expected

to prayerfully consider any request to be called to a position. Each

member is asked to complete a Time-Talent-Interest Survey to help

leaders in the planning and coordinating of activities.

MINISTRY TEAMS

Opportunities abound for every member to help in a variety of ways by

volunteering or accepting tasks in the myriad of church programs and

activities. Task guidelines are available to guide in the planning and

preparation for each activity.

WORSHIP

I believe that Jesus is the revealer of God’s love and purpose for this

world.

I will be a faithful member of the church … with my prayers and

presence…

Every member is to be a part of the worshipping community – our first

commandment to “Love the Lord our God.”

STEWARDSHIP

I will be a faithful member of the church, continuing the work of Jesus and

sharing in the gifts of the Spirit with … my substance and service.

Every member is expected to prayerfully determine an appropriate level of

giving of time and treasure. Annual commitment pledges are the best tool

to allow the church to anticipate its ability to fulfill programs, activities,

facility expenses, outreach and staff through the giving of our tithes and

offerings. Each member or couple receives a set of envelopes for the

convenience of their record-keeping.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

I will live in keeping with the example of Jesus as my teacher and guide.

“EACH ONE GROWING” is our vision.

Every member is responsible for participating in classes, programs and

activities for spiritual and intellectual growth.

FELLOWSHIP

I will be a faithful member of the church, continuing the work of Jesus and

sharing in the gifts of the Spirit with my prayers and presence…

Every member is encouraged to attend and participate in programs and

activities that deepen and expand our fellowship as a church family.

WITNESS

I will be a faithful member of the church, continuing the work of Jesus and

sharing in the gifts of the Spirit with … my substance and service.

“EVERY ONE SERVING” is our vision. Every member is expected to

contribute time and talent to the outreach of God’s kingdom, to use

opportunities to be “the hands and feet” of God.

DEACONS

Congregational care and special services are the cooperative

responsibility of the Pastor and Deacons. Every member is occasionally

asked to name by secret ballot those members they consider to be in good

standing who might be called to become deacons.

The Church is the people – not the building, not an institution. The church

uses a building and the church uses organization to fulfill the people’s vision,

mission, goals and values. (11/2013)
